Milton Keynes Juggling Convention #MKJC

Just spotted on facebook:

The school have made it impossible to do the event there. They cancelled, rebooked, and double booked. They kicked us out of the stage hall and finally told us last minute that we cannot serve tea or hot food.

As you can imagine we simply can't believe what's happened but we are all in agreement: The show must go on!!!

So we need to relocate tomorrow to 20 Burners Ln S, Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes MK11 3HB

It is incredibly difficult to get this to reach everyone on my own so I plead with you to share to your friends personal inboxes and your own walls to make sure no one is made to travel to the old location. Please bring a coat!

Daniel Simu - - Parent

Thanks for the heads up :o

Cedric Lackpot - - Parent

What the shuddering feck? Seriously? What on earth is going on at the school? They need a short, sharp lesson in humility.

I was planning to go but had an epic pig of a day and was too tired - I can only imagine the volcanic rage if I'd turned up there.

For a last-minute venue, that looked really nice :-)

Well done to the organisers for a great recovery.

Tom Derrick - - Parent

From a punter's perspective it appeared to run smoothly, which was remarkable given the venue issue. Well done MKJC organising team for getting that venue sorted in such a short time!

Daniel Simu - - Parent

It was a pleasure to meet you there Tom :). Happy balancing!

It's Him - - Parent

It helped that I already had a space in the building. Made finding the location easier. The place would be better with the heating fixed but wasn't horrendous. The available space may be increased a bit by next year if we have to do it there again.

Simeon -

Hi my name is Simeon I am 9 years old. Last week I attended the circusworks youth festival with no fit state circus.I got to perform in the gala show juggling 5 balls.I didn't feel nervous at all there was about 100 people in the audience.I've done 750 catches with 5 balls, with 6 balls I can do half shower, async and sync fountain I am also learning a 9,3 half shower I can do a 7,5 with inside 7s I am learning a 4 ball mills mess and also 5,3,4,mills mess. One time I did 7 balls for 35 catches and I'm learning a 7 ball half shower I've also tried to do site swaps with 7 such as 9,6,6 and 8,6,7, and (8x6)* with 5 balls I'm learning how to do (8x4)(44). I have performed at the NEC in Birmingham, in my school Assembly and at my Circus school.
I am a self taught juggler, been juggling for 3 years now This past year I have had juggling lessons at the Circus school.
I love all this juggling.
Bye for now

Orinoco - - Parent

Hello! Are you Tracey posting on behalf of Simeon, or are you Simeon posting with the account that Tracey asked to set up for you? I can change your username to Simeon if you'd like? that would be less confusing for everyone!

That's an impressive list of achievements there, how much of that progress was made before you started circus school?

Simeon - - Parent

Hi I am Simeon posting on my mum Tracey's account.
Could you change the name to Simeon Please.
I taught myself to juggle up to 5 balls but could only do a few tricks that I made up myself. I had no idea of site swaps before I started my juggling lessons. In my juggling lessons I was helped with my timing, posture and to understand site swaps.

Orinoco - - Parent

Done. You'll need to use Simeon as your username the next time you log on.

What were the tricks you made up yourself?

Danny Colyer - - Parent

"You'll need to use Simeon as your username the next time you log on."

How's he going to know that without logging on to see the message? Which he won't be able to do if he doesn't know that his username has changed because he hasn't seen the message...

I expect you've considered that and informed him by some other means as well, though, Orin.

Simeon - - Parent

I could only do tricks with up to four balls. Like half shower, sync and Asynchronous but I didn't know the names of the patterns before I started having lessons at Circus school.

7b_wizard - - Parent

hi there, .. and yeh, nice impressing repertoire!

Simeon - - Parent

Thanks very much. Sorry for late reply.

Hi Simeon,

I would have liked to see you at the Circusworks festival but unfortunately whilst my youth circus were there (Concrete Circus), I was at the British Juggling Convention instead. Which circus school do you attend? It might be good for you to attend juggling conventions if you don't already as that can provide a lot of positive stimulation.

Nigel

Simeon - - Parent

Hi Nigel I remember seeing concrete circus last week. I attend Circus Mash in Birmingham for my lessons.
My mum is going to take me to lestival this year and the EJC next year. I can't wait.

It's Him - - Parent

Hi Simeon,

If you are at Circus Mash then hopefully Tom can teach you lots of great skills. If you are looking at close juggling conventions then Milton Keynes Juggling Convention in November is just as good as Lestival (I'd say better but Jay would want to pick a fight). You get to see Concrete Circus performing in the show there as well.

Nigel

Simeon - - Parent

Hi Nigel
Thanks for letting me know about the Milton Keynes festival. It would be nice to see Jay again I remember him.
I go to Toms juggling club but only in the school holidays at it starts and finishes to late on a school night. We talk about our new juggling balls and use each other's to juggle with. We like to talk and try out new tricks together.
I am teaching my mum how to juggle, she can do about 12 throws and catches 3 ball cascade. My Dad is not as good as my mum yet.

Cedric Lackpot - - Parent

Hi Simeon,

I'm flattered that you claim to remember me ... but alas I may have to see you in person before I can recall where we've met, apologies.

Anyway, that dreadful old #MKJC won't happen again for about a billion years, you'll be long dead before it comes around, whereas Lestival! is in just three weeks' time! I'm pretty sure it's on the 5th May this year and I shall be there all day, so come along and re-introduce yourself to me.

Whatever you do, make it your business to immerse yourself in as many conventions and events as you possibly can, so that you can nurture and grow that fantastic talent you have whilst you are still annoyingly precociously young ;-)

Is anybody travelling from Bristol to #MKJC and have space in there car? I have 3 acts (four people) all travelling from Bristol and none of which have a car. If you want a petrol contribution and to feel like a good person and can take any of these people I would be most grateful if you would let me know so that we can arrange their transport.

Many thanks in advance,

Nigel

The Void - - Parent

I'll email you...

The Void - - Parent

Mind you, tempted to rescind for "there car". ;-P

It's Him - - Parent

Thanks Void. With you and one other we have solved the problem.

My problem with there, their and they're is one that dates back to my school days. I know the difference but unconsciously I appear not to do so and frequently get it wrong when I type quick messages!

MKJC show DVD for sale soon!

If you enjoyed the show at MKJC and would like a permanent copy then we will soon be issuing a DVD.

Filmed using 3 cameras and edited to show the acts to their best the DVD will be charged at under £5 (price tbc once we work out postage)

All profits go to our 'run a BJC near Milton Keynes' fund. A BJC near MK will happen after we find a suitable venue.

Sam Goodburn was excellent, the highlight for me.

It's Him - - Parent

I totally agree and if you look at my HLCBS or whatever it's called you'll see I've already said that. Such an improvement since he won BYJOTY.

The Void - - Parent

Well, I would if it was here or on RJ.
I had a fun day clicking with the wooden boys and girls, and was pleased to find a happy home for the slightly mutilated Juggling The Art & Its Artists I brought along. The show was fun. Cheers for the table and event, Nigel & crew.

Orinoco - - Parent

Well done Nigel, I had a really good day out. Sam Goodburn was sensational.

Full review coming soon-ish.

Orinoco - - Parent

Well, I would if it was here or on RJ.

*cough*

The Void - - Parent

Ah, right, I forgot about that feature. Hmmm, so, does anyone go back to look at event pages to check for these? What about Marvin posting a smalltalk post/reply "Itshim just added a HLGCBS to #eventhashtag"? What about me posting this in Meta where it belongs?

Orinoco - - Parent

Did you get the, "How was MKJC for you?" notice which includes links to this sort of thing?

barnesy - - Parent

I guess that only goes to people who went? I didn't go but I'm still interested.

The Void - - Parent

Yes, I did, but that seems like it's an offer for me to participate, but does not tell me if other people have done so. Plus, what Dave said.

It's Him -

Just a promotional post for MKJC which is this coming saturday. £8 for over 11s, under 12s free. £5 if you just want to watch the show.

Acts in the show are (in no particular order) Concrete Circus, Dave Kelly, Dave Leahy, Alan & Sadie, Erika, Simon Ratzker, Sam Goodburn, Jamie Fletcher & Mark Steyn.

Obviously we will have workshops (between 11am & 4pm), games (at 4pm), an auction (if anyone brings anything to sell), food and traders (Beard, Lazy Juggler & possibly Gravity Outlaws)

All details are on the website www.mkjc.co.uk

Re traders.... Did you get my email?

It's Him - - Parent

no, haven't seen an e-mail from you

It's Him - - Parent

Some say he only wears purple because he keeps spilling his ribena, some say that kendama would be much better if you cut the string. All we know is he's called The Void and will also be trading at MKJC

Little Paul - - Parent

MKJC = Marvelous Kendama and Juggling Convention?

I won't be there I'm afraid (driving up to Milton Keynes and back two weekends in a row is a bit much for me)

BTW, Can you pass my thanks on to your mum for the cake and sandwiches last Saturday? They were her usual high standard (the lemon cake was *amazing*) despite her being seeming slightly overwhelmed by the number of people!

I know I'm not the only telephone bod who appreciated her :)

It's Him - - Parent

Not attending means you won't be able to enter the raffle and having a chance to win won of her Dundee cakes!

I'll pass on your good wishes when I see her on Sunday.

regards,

Nigel

Orinoco - - Parent

I will be popping along. I've never been to this one before so I am really looking forward to it!

It's Him - - Parent

I'll be there as well. I've attended the last two. They're quite good fun!

Nigel
