In case anyone hasn't seen the announcement https://www.jugglehub.com/ has been released. I think it looks really good, I like the categorisation which I believe will keep a lot of people happy.
I have yet to be able to log on yet through any of the various methods though so can't comment on posting.
I'll be honest I thought rec.juggling would go with the IJDb, but now with a new interface that is a dedicated juggling website I think it will continue. So where does that leave the Edge? Can you be bothered to follow two different forums for the same subject? Have I done enough to make you switch from usenet to Small Talk? Now that there is a rec.juggling interface that has a foreseeable future again will you be returning to usenet?
I have a perfectly good usenet client and the ijdb's passing was unlikely to make a difference to my rec.juggling usage anyway.
I'll hang out wherever the interesting discussions end up. If that's both places then fine by me.

Although over the last month or so, I've found myself checking the edge more frequently than my newsreader. That's probably because it's still all new and shiny.
But yes. I'll be here and on r.j for quite some time to come. I think they fill different niches and I'm quite excited by all the possibilities!
I thought RJ would quieten down but never really go. Jugglehub looks like it'll fall into shape quite soon (I imagine there'll be more shoving than that implies), and I think it may well lead to a busier RJ than we were used to.
I'll definitely still be here though. I don't view the Edge as a replacement or as a lifeboat and I think there's definitely space for more than one place to talk about stuff. I think people will still keep an eye on it. We're a compulsive lot.
I'm more worried about events and club listings not having a definitive home any more, but perhaps we just need to see where that ends up. I don't have any big answers on that one!
And the compendium articles, such as your one on making beanbags, which I often direct people to.
Regardless of whatever else happens - I, for one, would love to see some collaboration on things like events and club information between the different sites that emerge.
Similarly with other language juggling sites - clubs and events could easily be shared between them (and videos too). No idea how it might work, but it might be nice. And noone wants to have to update club information on 10 different sites, or to check half a dozen to see if there's a juggling club in the place they're visiting.
I'm in for both the Edge and r.j. I like the edginess (it passed the spell check) of the future and the historical continuity of r.j
With the xml feeds the Edge could take over the events and clubs role of the IJDb and be mirrored elsewhere. It will be interesting to see how it grows.
Having another forum is no bad thing.
It would be nice to have all the juggling clubs and conventions listed in one place, are their plans to import the clubs/events list from jugglingdb? At the moment it is not particularly easy to add a club or event.
Events (future and historic) may be of interest, but I think clubs data has too short a shelf life to be of any interest unless it's presented as being of questionable vinntage.

I've been planning on importing events for a while (this will not be a quick thing because the Edge requires more data than the IJDb so there are a lot of gaps for me to fill, plus I'd have to do it in small doses because I don't want to get blocked by Google for excessive geoencodiing which is an essential part of the site).
I've set the Edge up to handle dead clubs which won't show up in any searches unless a user explicitly asks for them, & one of the connections you can set is alumnus which I think would be a nice feature. But for some reason I am really reluctant to import dead club data.
& Mïark please do let me know what is difficult about adding new clubs/events/groups.
I was going to post this to meta talk, but hadn't got around to it;
Adding events with no postcode gets a "failed geocoding. Google Maps returned Status 602" error message and it will not let you post the event until you put a postcode in. This is fine if the event is being held in a building with a postcode, but not all buildings have postcodes and if the event is in a field - fields generally don't have a postcode.
I was in York the other week and encouraged the Univ Jugglesoc to add their club to the Edge Clubs listing, and it took them several attempts overcoming error messages and I don't think they are particularly computationally challenged (after all university students are the top 50% of the country education-wise) I can't remember what exactly was the problem apart from them saying it was a total ball-ache (which isn't the most specific of a bug report). I do remember it would not allow them to say they met twice a week but there were other things.
It would be nice to have a comprehensive listing of active clubs, the jugglingdb traffic light system seemed to work quite well, but for example I have just found there are two clubs in Humberside not on the jugglingdb list (you can possibly find them on facebook if you know their names, neither of which have the words juggling/club/circus/society in their name)

The 602 error is from Google & is something I have no control over that unfortunately. I could ignore the warnings & allow the user to carry on but for clubs I would not be able to locate them on the map search or include them in the 'nearest neighbour' feature, or list them in North-South, East-West order.
When testing I tried loads of addresses in different formats & never had anything fail that I didn't expect to. This is the first complaint I've heard so perhaps I'll record failed geoencoding attempts & see what the case is. I'd prefer to avoid getting into the situation where I have a load of records with incomplete data, but if it really is a problem I'll see what I can sort out.
The dropdown control for meeting times was designed so that I have machine readable data for calculating next meeting dates etc. There is a multiple meetings option at the bottom of the list under 'It's complicated' which opens up a free text area where you can describe whatever strange schedule you like. Did they miss that or is that not adequate?
The Edge has the same functionality as the traffic light system, I just don't display traffic lights. Status 0 is active, Status 1 is unverified in 90 days, Status 2 is defunkt.

the #WJD-UK is me, I had to put the postcode of the house nearest to where you would turn off the road to go to the field to avoid the 602 error, hence the "(near-ish LA22 0EE)". I had just assumed it was the postcode was the problem since that fixed it.

I'll be staying here, keeping the edge as my main juggling site and just check rec.juggling every now and then.
You've definitely done enough and I've loved the edge since it started, Well done Orinoco! :).

I see The Edge as becoming the new home for Events and Clubs.... although non-English speakers may not be so inclined to list them here. (What with IJDb having been multi-lingual)
I'll be sticking around. I like the simplicity of the site.
The Events and Clubs is great here. I especially like the Events layout, filters by country and date.

Having more than one place of discussion (that is actually used) is a ballache. It's also a really good thing. Plurality brings its own problems but monocultures, such as r.j has heretofore been, have their drawbacks too.
The real test here is not asking whether the Edge still has a role, it's waiting six months and seeing if it's still getting significant use. I've already noticed that my own behaviour with the Edge is changing, which reflects my own experiences so far, as well as the developing environment here, and I expect the Edge has quite a way to go before it properly settles into a rhythm.
As has been mentioned by others, I haven't left r.j but I've been alarmed by its declining traffic. Its s/n ratio remains satisfactorily high though.
There are a few things that might need to be addressed to ensure the continued good health of the Edge :-
In summary, I can't see a major problem with the continued existence and use of the Edge, but it needs to accept that it's part of a broader church and concentrate on what it does best. I won't be switching from Usenet (any more than I have since the Edge arrived), but I will cheerfully use both. Truth be told, I probably won't use the Hub much because I like fleet-footed newsreaders, but it'll be a reet handy place to search the archives, generate links, and so on.
