Last day of work for me before #BJC2014. I'm really shattered from a busy weekend, a big night of salsa dancing on Monday, a late night of coding last night (nothing anyone will notice but trust me things are a lot better now!) & as usual, right on time, I appear to be developing a cold. Do I forego TWJC tonight so that I can get some rest?
No.
Sorry Kev, I might be snoring in the car tomorrow!
I always used to get a cold at the BJC. So much so that I stopped going for several years. Fingers crossed that I don't get one now. I'll be working tomorrow but have Friday off, so not much time for packing as I'm juggling tonight at #USCS.

I'm on holiday now as well, tomorrow I clean the van and start packing, then drop the cat off at her holiday home ready to pootle up the motorway Friday morning.
Really looking forward to chilling out given how crazy busy this week has been at work!
I too have a minor throat tickle, which I'm hoping comes to nothing...
I have just started packing the car.
I might have a quick power nap on the way as I didn't get much sleep last night. The car knows the way.
I'm just about packed, will be setting off for your place in 30-40 minutes or so. Will get there 10:30-11:00 probably.
The frequency of excitable chest tightenings is increasing.
Right, time for the first leg of the journey. See some of you tonight, more of you tomorrow!
Marvin, I better not come back to the mess you left me with last year.

BOV is packed, and I've got a lemon drizzle cake and a batch of cheese/onion straws baked.
I'm sure there's something I've missed but I'm almost ready to leave...
I guess you are referring to University of Sussex Circus Society.
#USCS. Yes, it's been a long time since we didn't have the hall last term. It was good to be back. Quite a few new people - lets hope they stay for more than the first week. I taught one person to juggle 3 balls and another to pass.
I know, right?
Mandella Hall? Is that as in Nelson Mandela or is this just my immediate instinct as a South African?
I think it was called "the Old refectory" in the late 1970's but was renamed after Nelson Mandela
by the students union some time after that

was it not named after the block of flats in only fools and horses then?

I was interested to know where the saying, 'Only fools and horses work' came from.
According to Wikipedia:
Why do only fools and horses work? (for a living), had its origins in 19th-century American vaudeville.

Have you found all the clubs meeting near Brighton listed on this website?

That was really awesome!
I can't help you with Brighton jugglers other than to say check the local clubs through the links at the top of this site, but I look forward to seeing you at a UK convention soon and sharing some tricks.
James
Hi Dodo. I live near Brighton and have been a regular at the juggling clubs for years. There are plenty of other jugglers. This evening there will be Hoop O'Clock (#HOC) on the green if the weather's good, although I'm not sure I can make it. The Brighton and Hove club on Monday evenings is a good indoor space although not a lot of people. The Sussex University Circus Society (#USCS) is the best with a large space and quite a few people at the right time of year and is almost free, however that won't start until the start of term (not long now hopefully). Have a look at the club listings here and join these Facebook groups maybe. Hopefully I'll see you around.

Last night was our last night at the Camden Centre in Tunbridge Wells. I was getting a little worried because despite selling things in dribs & drabs over the past few weeks we still had an enormous amount of kit left over. But thankfully ambassadors from from Crawley, Falmer & Chatham paid us a visit to give pretty much all our kit a loving new home (still got a few bits left some of which will be coming to #BBU13). Others were worried for a different reason & I had a number of people ask me, "we're not selling the coffin are we?", "we're still keeping the coffin right?"
As well as visitors looking for kit we had a good turnout for the party including many familiar faces from years ago who it was nice to catch up & reminisce with. Peter Bone sadly demonstrated to the kids that Simon & I aren't actually that good. There was a wonderfully gooey chocolate fudge cake courtesy of Karina. Although I only had 3 slices I can confirm that it would have been worth the drive from Bungay.
Nostalgia was rife throughout the evening with lots of laughter about memories from our years at the hall. Jo in particular enjoyed going through some of our scrapbooks, when she came across the first photo of me from ~15 years ago she said, "Wow, you used to be quite the looker, but now you've got this (waves at all of me) going on". We enjoyed returning to the alarming inaccuracies, mistakes & blatant falsehoods being peddled by local journalists. It was quite alarming the amount of wigs & painted faces that were about in the 90s but fortunately I am proud that the record shows that I always performed in a shirt & waistcoat.
From our archives here's a picture of a club night when we were near the height of our powers taken on the 8th of March 1993:

I had a great time. It's a shame you'll no longer have that hall as it was ideal and made me wish that I'd visited before. Hope you find a new venue soon.
Thanks for the walking globe. The #USCS members enjoyed playing with it last night.
Sorry I didn't thank you for your work on this site while I was there. I confess that I only just made that connection (you don't make it easy). Hopefully see you down at the #USCS sometime.
I know, it's hard to be a lurker & run a major website at the same time!
To be clear:
Orinoco = Jon from TWJC = Yeah that one

If you feel like being any clearer, would you care to point out which one you are in the photo above?
