Port Elizabeth Circus Society Spin Session
Last night was the first chance I have had to get back to #HappyValleySpinjam since the end of November. There was only three of us, but it was rather entertaining. I got to show off my new LED poi. The main driving force (Christo) behind the meetings has been experimenting again, and has made some clubs.
Took a thick (30mm or so?) dowel and attached a slightly smaller one on one end. Then placed a pill bottle over the opposite end. I gave them a go and they were not bad, but a bit handle heavy. So we pulled off the bottle and added a bit of sand to each, which made them much nicer. They actually work ok, although they are pretty short, so they still rotate a bit faster than my Delphins. That said, they are heavy, and have no bumpers or anything.
I tried a few basic four ball things. The transition between synch and asynch is feeling more comfortable, but I am still getting lost somewhere in trying to start 534 (by throwing the 53 and then going back to standard asynch fountain).
Christo has some big plans for the year, so I might be getting some more gigs. Most of them are show up and do some stuff for a couple of hours, but with minimal effort from my side, so I get some pocket money that I can funnel back into getting new toys. We also talked about looking for a more central location that is indoors, so we will see where that develops towards....
I bet your 5 and your 3 are both too close to your 4s. Try separating them more. Good luck with the gigs.
@ mtb - 534 - Maybe think of it as 345, all to same side, then sidechange (with always same ball doing 3-s and that ball also initiating the sidechange). Made me get a hold of it.
This is a nice one. I think I can see my way clear to getting this a bit more solid. Thanks.
Yesterday was a small #HappyValleySpinjam, with only a couple spinners.
New girl who has some devil/flowerstick skills was playing around with a prototype for a fire stick. It was cool to see something different to the usual poi and staff.
I played around with someone's practice staff and did some contact, and spun some poi.
Taught a few basics to the new girl and did a bit more solidifying of my club cascade with some double spins in places, which is coming along slowly. I plan to start working on some new club tricks soon though, since I found some tutorials.
It is nice to hear of news from other juggling groups, it feels like 320 days since we last had an update on the antics at TWJC.
Fire devilstick can be tricky as you have to make sure your stop positions are not melting stick or handsticks.
