Yo.

I went to the Berliner akrobatic festival this weekend and are going for Belgium #DeSkjeveConventie3de ) for the convention there on the 27th. Im hithchiking Around Europe for 4 months and searching for jugglers / conventions / meetings etc.

After Belgium im going south through France to hit Spain in 10 days or maybe more.
But im not really familiar with the french and spanish culture and tradition of street juggling. Is it common? Are there somewhere that I should visit? Can you recommend me something? If you know something from Bruxelles to Barcelona / Malaga, that I shouldnt miss in my searching, then shoot.

Im new here on jugglingedge, but props to the website. It works really good.

Hi Peter, & welcome. I'm glad you like the website.

For the French juggling scene & culture we've recently been joined by Olivier who is very knowledgeable in that area. He's on holiday at the moment but I'm sure will be able to help when he returns.

For juggling in Spain I'm not aware of any upcoming events & there is nothing listed on malabart.com either I'm afraid. Although when I visited Malaga in 2010 I really enjoyed poking around in the Cuevas de Nerja!

Hello Peter,

I can only talk about France, I'm not either familiar with spanish street performance.

I think whether it's legal/free to perform on street depends on the city. That is to say I think greatly thatyou can do it almost everywhere, but maybe in some places like Paris, you'll need something to perform say in front of Beaubourg's museum. This place has been for the last 40 years a place where you could find street performance. It a bit like the Covent Garden, but way less popular. There's lots of tourists there though.
Apart from Beaubourg I can't think of a place in France I could say that you'll find street artists, like again Covent Garden.
The main reason of this is that, there's tons of street festival in France (mainly summertime). And most artists are working to get work in these festivals, and less spontaneous street performances. It pays better than the hat(and not most of the time), but it's a good place to get booked by an other festival, and it opens rights for unemployment care. So, common public doesn't really expect to see/watch a street show, but they all have seen some and ould be happy to if you give them the opportunity. I remember John Nations' show in the middle of Lille, where i've never seen somebody having a show and it was great !
That being said, I live north of France, and I know that in the South where's the weather is better, you'll have more luck. If I were you, I'd go for touristics resorts on the Atlantic and Mediteranean Cost (easier and more friendly on the Atlantic).
Toulouse is a really nice city to meet circus artists, go have a look.
