# balance, 15 minutes

Balancing experiments with a rotating mass:
I was originally going to use this as a way to cheat at head balance, but have since reconsidered.

Is it easier to balance a rod with weights at both ends, or weight in the middle?

I got the question from this thread:

Here are my results so far:

The left side of the video shows balance of a carbon fiber arrow shaft with weights (40g each) at the top and the bottom.

The right side of the video shows balance of a shaft with a weight (80g) in the middle.

This is an inverted pendulum. Both configurations have equal mass, length, and center of mass. It is much easier to balance when the weights are placed at the top and the bottom of the shaft.

I bought an arrow and sawed off the nock, leaving a carbon fiber tube that is 32" @ 0.9 grams/inch.

Some experiments balancing the tube weighted and unweighted:

# balance, 90 minutes

I trained balance a lot today. PR: 6 catches of 3b with a head balance (clean). I also got 4 gathers flashing 5 balls with a head balance.

Something happened when I was head balancing, and it clicked.

# 5 clubs, balance, 110 minutes

Good session. Been starting with one run of bx switching into rev bx, and it's nice how much more comfortable that transition is getting just by doing it once each session.

Getting better at balance tricks, and landed the 5551, 1 behind the back into the balance. Normal transition still fails more often than not though so need to pull that up.

5 clubs generally getting better and working on a variety of ss is helpful. Got 66661 and 88441 with 1 behind the back without too much effort - again these are good exercises for the 97531 (which I didn't land with 1 behind back today). 744 very nice form - really need to focus on timing, and low relaxed 4s - doing this gives me space to think about the 7s.

7 club flash worked. Got 10 catches in best run, although I was quite annoyed because it was easily good enough for longer, which is promising. The launches seem more relaxed and using less body movement which is good. Float the first two, then spin the rest.

# 3-5 clubs, balance, 120 minutes

Exclusively clubs. Not very often I practice clubs so much but enjoying improving them for the first time in a while.

Was working mainly on the single tricks I can do from 5c cascade. Landed all of the following to qualify plus clean collect: 645, 744, 663, 66661, triples flash, single bxx, single flat.

Think I will make this my warm up with 5 going forward, adding tricks or extending these to short runs as I improve.

# 3-5 clubs, balance, 3-7 balls, 70 minutes

Excellent little juggle in what was glorious weather for hk in December. Almost exclusively clubs apart from 5 minutes when I had an audience and thought I better do something other than drilling 5 clubs!

3c bxx plus balance was the highlight. Felt natural and "easy" for the first time ever. Broke my old record several times in the space of 6 or 7 runs. Bests of 78 and 82 plus a run of c50 isolated.

Did a fair bit of 5 club endurance. Consistently getting 160-200c but struggle to go further. I think a mixture of bad form, low pattern and lack of strength. Need to get back to the gym.

Will probably juggle some more later as loving the chance to train without work getting in the way. Would have carried on now but for lunch with my brother.

# 3-7 balls, 3-5 clubs, balance, 150 minutes

First day of juggling in a week owing to illness and then jetlag.

Was really nice to get to juggle outside in the warmth today though. Winters suck for juggling. Just need to get over my reluctance to practice anything I can't already do in public places though.

Was focusing mainly on clubs today. 5 clubs was feeling good. Spent a while practicing 5c bxx. Single throws to and from cascade getting seem to be getting more solid. Got a couple of 2 connected back to pattern.

Highlights: sunshine, 200+ catches of 5 clubs first try, 5c triples feeling good, 5c bxx improving, lots of applause from passers by!

Lowlights: 7 balls decidedly dodgy today, too many passers by!

# 3-7 balls, 3-5 clubs, balance, 170 minutes

Wasn't going to go as feeling super tired but dragged myself out of the house and not too terrible a session considering. Focus on general club stuff and 5b backcrosses.

Highlights - 38c of 3club bxx with chin balance, 5b bxx feeling increasingly comfortable (best of 17 catches from 18 throws today) and very nearly getting 3 throws of 5club bxx back to pattern right at the end.

Lowlights - tiredness, not beating 5b bxx record, not getting 5c bxx back to pattern clean.

# 3-4 balls, 3-4 clubs, balance, 50 minutes

More low ceiling stuff. Few more attempts at 4b half contortion, flash is solid, beyond that much less so. Also 4b shoulders feeling good and almost runnable for a decent length of time. Trying to improve my 3b reverse bxx but struggling to get beyond 8-10 catches.

Continuing to work on Alberts with clubs. Nice run of 20 continuous right hand throws but my pesky left hand continues to fail me. Had a Few successful attempts at single Alberts with a chin balance balance in a couple of runs too.

5 minutes spent on 4 clubs, mainly low flats and scissors in singles.
